Skills Based Learning

Confident, Capable, Independent

Barfield School’s exciting Life Skills curriculum is designed to equip children with essential skills for everyday living, fostering independence and confidence from an early age.

This practical initiative empowers pupils with abilities that will serve them well throughout life, from basic household tasks to financial literacy. Activities such as laying a table, ironing, and filling a dishwasher teach responsibility, attention to detail and most importantly taking pride in their work.

Hands-On Experience

Cooking and sewing provide creative, hands-on experiences that blend fun with functionality, helping children understand the value of self-sufficiency and problem-solving. Financial budgeting, introduced in an age-appropriate manner, encourages pupils to think critically about money management and develop an understanding of saving, spending, and planning—a foundation for future financial responsibility. The Curriculum emphasises the importance of life beyond the conventional academics, highlighting skills that contribute to both personal well-being and social interaction.

Meaningful Real-World Tasks

By engaging in these meaningful, real-world tasks, children not only gain practical knowledge but also develop resilience, time management, and a sense of accomplishment. Barfield School’s Life Skills Curriculum ensures that pupils grow as well-rounded individuals, capable of navigating life’s challenges with confidence as well as instilling values of responsibility and resourcefulness that prepare them for success in adulthood.
