Exploring Subjects

The Upper School comprises of Years 3 – 6.

The curriculum has a contemporary, hands-on feel where children debate and explore subjects. We are committed to developing life-long learners with enquiring minds. Teamwork and collaboration are high on the agenda in our teaching practice, providing both the skills and knowledge that will equip pupils well for the ever changing future.

Preparing Pupils for 11+

The school curriculum is geared towards preparing pupils for 11+ Entrance Examinations and Scholarship exams. We endeavour to provide a bespoke, broad but dynamic curriculum which embraces the key examinable subjects (English, Maths, Science, French, History, Geography and R.E) whilst stretching the pupils’ creative and practical horizons through timetabled Art, Design Technology, Drama, Music, PE, Digital Learning, Current Affairs, Life Skills, PSHE and Games. The children are taught in groups of no more than 20 pupils in bright and well-equipped and fully classrooms. All teachers use interactive display technology in their teaching.

There is a thriving Learning Support Department for those who need an extra specialist help whilst a dedicated scholarship class in Maths and English are available throughout the Autumn term to ensure the very able pupils are given every chance to fulfil their academic ambitions. We also run an EPP (Eleven Plus Pathway programme) which aims to provide our Performing Arts scholars with additional tme to perfect their scholarship practice.

The curriculum is supported by an array of extra-curricular activities, regular sport, field trips, residential trips and outings to the theatre, museums, art galleries and places of cultural interest.

The pupils are divided into four Houses and there is fierce competition between them. They compete in Music, Sports Day and other events.

Beyond Barfield

Pupils embark on exciting new journeys at the end of Year 6, heading to a diverse range of top senior schools, both day and boarding.
