Wellbeing

Wellbeing is integral to school life at Barfield.

We promote positive mental and physical health so that our children leave us as confident and happy individuals with a wellbeing toolkit ready to take on their next challenges.

We have embedded an ethos where mental health and emotional wellbeing is regarded as the responsibility of all teachers to monitor, but also for all pupils to be aware of.

Throughout their time at Barfield they should be building their knowledge on self-regulation, self-awareness and coping strategies for their thoughts and feelings.

Barfield children develop the understanding of what contributes to a healthy mind and body and it enables them to have the emotional literacy to express themselves, not only when things go right, but also when they go wrong. We provide a platform that gives our children a voice; a voice that allows them to be able to express their feelings and know that these feelings will be listened to and acknowledged.

In the nursery the children focus on the Zones of Regulation to help their understanding of feelings and emotions.

The children are supported with their emotional wellbeing in the classroom, through various topic books and stories, including ‘Find your happy’ and ‘The Colour Monster’. The children build strong relationships with the nursery team, who are always available when needed, for both the child and their family.
