Performing Arts at Barfield
Dance & Drama
Through dance and drama, pupils develop technical skills, unleash their imaginations, and discover their unique voices in an inclusive and supportive environment. There are lots of performances throughout the year for all of our pupils. In the Lower school students have lessons in performing arts and music taught by specialist teachers honing their skills ahead of their performances in the Nativity and the Christmas Carol Services working towards the Lower School Performing Arts Summer Showcase which includes every child in the Lower School.
Ballet & Musical Theatre Club
For students taking Ballet classes there is also the Summer Ballet Showcase. The Lower School has no shortage of clubs include Lower School Drama Club and Musical Theatre Club. In the Upper School students continue Music and Drama lessons, continuing to build on their skills from Lower School. Year 3 and 4 have a production in the Spring Term and Year 5 and 6 students involved in the Drama Club have their performance at the end of the school year. Upper School benefit from Year 3 & 4 Drama Club, Senior Drama Club and Dance Troupe.
Music
Music is taught from Nursery by specialist teachers. Students are fortunate to be taught whole class instruments as part of their music lessons. We are fortunate to have an incredible team of peripatetic teachers who teach a host of different instruments for students wanting to have individual instrumental tuition.
We begin our performing year in the Autumn Term with all groups in the school taking part in our whole school Harvest and Remembrance Assemblies.
The Lower School goes on to work on their Nativity and Christmas Carol Service performances. Year 5 and 6 students have a Performing Arts Concert and an evening of Carols showcasing the Senior and Chamber Choirs as well as working towards the whole school Christmas Carol Service. In the Spring term Year 5’s and 6’s having Carol Services and the Summer term culminates with the Year 3’s and 4’s concert.
Our Performing Arts programme fosters essential life skills, including teamwork, discipline, and resilience, equipping our pupils for success in all aspects of life.
At Barfield, we celebrate the power of the arts to unite, inspire, and transform, nurturing a love of creativity that lasts a lifetime.
