Extra-Curricular Activities

Explore, Discover, Thrive: We believe in a holistic approach to education, where learning extends beyond the classroom.

Our broad and varied extracurricular programme gives students the opportunity to explore their passions while discovering new interests. With clubs running before school, at lunchtime, and after school until 6:15 pm, there’s something for everyone. From creative and performing arts to sports, STEM and adventure, our diverse offering is designed to inspire and challenge. We also welcome expert external providers who lead specialist clubs such as golf, judo, ballet, and LEGO, ensuring high-quality experiences for our pupils. Whatever their interests, every child at Barfield Prep has the opportunity to explore, develop, and thrive.

Club Highlights Include:

Pocket Money Bricks

This fun Lego club is run by external provider. Pocket Money Bricks and takes advantage of their extensive Lego resources. Designed to foster creativity, problem-solving, and teamwork through structured and themed LEGO building activities, whilst most importantly having lots of fun. Children will learn about the uses of different parts and building techniques so that models can become even more creative and fun. Includes a take-home gift each term.

LAMDA Lessons

LAMDA Speech and Drama lessons are available to all children in Years 1-6. These classes happen throughout the school day and are timetabled on a weekly rotation. LAMDA aims to develop self-confidence and enhance the pupils’ drama knowledge and experience through fun exercises, communication and performance. Pupils will learn about vocal techniques, mime/movement and the theatre, as well as having the opportunity to express and develop their own creative ideas through performance. LAMDA examinations and a LAMDA Showcase are held annually.

Judo

Judo, a modern Olympic sport invented by a Japanese teacher, is a popular, general fitness training method and is also a fun sport. Barfield has a long tradition of having an exciting and enthusiastic Judo activity. Tuition is provided by Mr Fricker, a judo black-belt and professional teacher from Judo School who represents ProCoach Judo. He has a strong reputation for motivating pupils to learn about judo in an exciting way, encouraging enjoyment from the sport.

Ballet

Barfield Ballet is held on a Wednesday throughout the year for children in Owlets to Year 6 and is taught by a Royal Academy of Dance (RAD) Registered Teacher. Ballet is a great way to stay active, creative and learn the technique and discipline of ballet. Children are taught dances, exercises and routines from the Royal Academy of Dance Syllabi at an appropriate level for their age. Older students have the opportunity to create their own choreography. Parents are invited to a Showcase in the Summer Term.

Golf

Peter & Ollie from Farnham Golf Club offer a fun and friendly Golf Club to children from Year 1 – 6. From team matches, individual games, penalty shoot-outs, short chips and pressure putts, children have lots of fun whilst learning the basics of golf – plus they get to do all of this with their school friends! This club takes place in the Barfield sports hall during the Autumn and Spring Terms. Summer Term courses are held at Farnham Gold Club (free transport is provided).

Survival Skills

Survival Skills is designed to look at the topics of survival with the children in our school setting. Topics covered may include building shelters, navigation, communication, first aid, and bushcraft skills with lots of games and fun activities too.
